Bridget O'Grady is a mail order bride, an Irish girl from Boston. She replies to an advertisement for a wife to a man named Seth Masterson, and after a few letters back and forth, she agrees to travel the distance to marry Seth, using her last funds in the world to do so. When the poor young woman arrives at her destination, though, there is no Seth waiting for her at the stage depot in town.
After having to depend on the townspeople for help, Bridget arrives at Seth's home only to have him deny any knowledge of any letters. The culprits are soon found Seth's two young daughters just knew their father needed a new wife, and they have written the letters!
Bridget has no money to return to Boston, and Seth certainly can't afford to send her back. There's nothing waiting for Bridget there anyway. Deep down, Bridget would like to stay, but she'd have to be a fool to contemplate marrying a man who on the very first meeting threatened to paddle her for her sharp tongue, wouldn't she? Problem was, those darling little girls needed a new "Mam," and she was hard-pressed to say no to them...
Joannie Kay does it again, with a sweet/spicy Western blending old-fashioned romance with old-fashioned discipline.

this really could of been longer i loved the characters but their was nothing to the story. i really feel cheated. this so called story felt more like an outline of a story.
This was rather wordy and novel based and very slow for the number of pages. As soon as the sexual tension in the story is reached it fizzles. There is no real sexual energy in the story.
This was a wonderful, sweet story about two little girls who lost their mother three years ago and desperately wanted a new one. Their father was still mourning the loss of his wife and had no interest in a new one so they went behind his back and found a mail order bride who thought she was corresponding with the dad. Needless to say when she arrives confusion ensues but he does the right thing and marries her. The story has such wonderful characters that I fell in love with it! The father is strong and firm but loving to both his daughters and his wife. My only complaint is that it was too short. Hopefully we will see this family again in a sequel )
This is the story of 2 little girls that put an ad in the newspaper to get a mail order bride for their father without telling him. When she arrives, Seth marries her because there seems to be no other solution. She becomes a loving Mam to the girls and wife to her husband. It is a lovely story and very well written. I took away one star because I read it in less then an hour. It is a really good period story and there were so many different ways to expand on it. But it seems yet again Ms. Kay has taken the easy way out and gave us the bare bones of the story leaving us wanting more. I love her writing and hope that she will start to give us full stories/books again.
Excellent story! Wonderful ! Can't put down book! I love that the little girls wanted a mom and sent for a mail order bride without their father's knowledge.allesome book loved it.
Always hard for a stepmother to find her place in a family. THis one finds it over the knee of her new husband when she endangers the children by not following his orders to stay near the cabin. Good story! The girls learn to love her, and so does dad. A happily ever after kind of story.
Of course, too short but I only say that when the story is good. Developed enough for a good short story but good enough for a longer version.
The Irish references were done well and and Man stayed in character. Time passage was appropriate between meeting, love and consumption.
